Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about music lessons at Dallas Music Teacher — from getting started to scheduling and pricing.
Getting Started
We begin teaching children as young as age 5 for piano, violin, and ukulele. Guitar and drums typically start at age 7 when finger and motor coordination are developed enough. Voice lessons start at age 8. We also enthusiastically teach adult learners of all ages — it is truly never too late to start learning music.
No prior experience required whatsoever. Many of our students are complete beginners — children picking up their first instrument and adults pursuing a lifelong dream. Our teachers are skilled at starting from scratch. We also welcome returning students who played years ago and want to pick back up.
Click any "Book Free Trial" button on this website, fill out the short enrollment form, and we'll contact you within 1 hour to schedule your first lesson. You can also call us at (214) 555-1234 or email hello@dallasmusicteacher.com. No credit card required at any point until you choose to enroll in a plan.
Not for your free trial. We have instruments available at our Dallas studio for trial lessons. Once you enroll, regular home practice is essential for progress — your teacher will advise on the right instrument to purchase or rent for your budget and skill level. We can point you to trusted local rental programs in the Dallas area.
We offer private lessons in piano, guitar (acoustic, electric, classical), drums and percussion, voice and singing, violin, bass guitar, and ukulele. See our instrument pages for details on curriculum, teachers, and availability for each instrument.
About Our Lessons
Standard lessons are 30 minutes — ideal for younger beginners and students on a regular schedule. We also offer 60-minute lessons for students who want deeper session coverage. Most students progress to 60-minute lessons as they advance. Lesson length can be adjusted at any time based on student needs.
Yes. We offer high-quality online lessons via Zoom for all instruments except acoustic drums (which requires an electronic kit). Our online students achieve the same results as in-person students. All you need is a device with a camera and microphone, your instrument, and a well-lit, quiet space. We serve students across DFW and beyond through online lessons.
Weekly lessons are standard and strongly recommended for consistent progress. Monthly plan students receive 4 lessons per month on a consistent weekly schedule. Some students opt for bi-weekly lessons depending on practice time availability, though weekly instruction produces noticeably faster results.
All standard lessons are private and one-on-one. Private instruction allows your teacher to completely focus on your individual technique, goals, and progress — which produces significantly better results than group settings. We do periodically offer group workshops and ensemble opportunities as supplemental programming for enrolled students.
Pricing & Payment
Single lessons are $70 for 30 minutes. Monthly plans (4 lessons per month) are $240/month ($60/lesson). Semester plans (8 lessons + semester recital + sheet music) are $380 ($47.50/lesson). Your very first trial lesson is always completely free with no credit card required. See our full Pricing page for details.
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), debit cards, Venmo, Zelle, and ACH bank transfer. Monthly plans are set up for convenient auto-billing on your enrollment date each month.
Yes. Families enrolling two or more students receive a 10% discount on the second and subsequent students' monthly or semester plans. Contact us when enrolling to apply the sibling discount. Gift cards are also available for any amount — a great option for birthdays and holidays.
No registration fees, no setup fees, no hidden charges. You pay only for lessons. The total cost is exactly what you see on our pricing page. Your first trial lesson is free, and you choose a plan (or not) after experiencing your first session.
Scheduling & Cancellations
We offer lessons Monday through Saturday from 9am to 8pm, and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm. We have morning, afternoon, and evening slots available to accommodate school schedules, work schedules, and family life.
Cancel or reschedule with 24 hours' notice and we'll arrange a make-up lesson at no additional charge. Monthly plan subscribers receive one make-up lesson per month included. We send automated reminders 24 hours before each lesson so you never miss it. For same-day cancellations, we handle situations on a case-by-case basis.
Yes. Life changes and schedules shift — we understand that. Contact us to request a different lesson time or day and we'll work with your teacher to find a new slot that works for both sides. Permanent schedule changes can be arranged with one week's notice.
We schedule around your family's holiday calendar. Monthly plan billing pauses for any month where lessons are reduced due to student-initiated holiday scheduling — we don't bill for lessons that don't happen. We'll communicate any studio closures around major holidays well in advance.
Teachers & Matching
When you enroll, we ask about your instrument, goals, musical style preferences, age, and scheduling needs. We then match you with the instructor whose expertise, teaching approach, and availability best fits your profile. You can also browse and select a teacher directly from our Teachers page.
Absolutely. The student-teacher relationship is everything. If for any reason the match isn't working — personality, teaching style, scheduling — just let us know and we'll arrange a seamless transition to a different instructor. No awkwardness, no hassle, no extra fees.
Yes. Every instructor at Dallas Music Teacher passes a thorough background check before teaching their first student. We verify credentials and professional references as well. Your family's safety and trust are non-negotiable priorities for us.
All our teachers hold music degrees from accredited universities — many hold Master's degrees in performance or music education. Beyond credentials, we specifically hire teachers who are active performers, deeply knowledgeable in their instrument, and genuinely skilled at communicating with students of their age group. View individual teacher bios on our Teachers page.
